Lush

I was drawing this week in Kensington Roof Gardens, which is an amazing hidden oasis in busy Kensington. It is hard to belief you are actually in a roof of a building. There are trees and flowers, ponds and bridges, a waterfall, a Spanish style villa, ducks - and even flamingos! I would have liked to sketch one but unfortunately didn't have time . As you can see, I wasn't alone, we had a quite big group of sketchers there, which meant I spent most of the time chatting about anything between toilet habits around the world to fostering children, and not that much drawing.
(Maybe I shouldn't have added that fence to the sketch, I think it looked better before.)

  1. Sasa, I think this is a wonderful sketch.
The fence is very good there because it helps to give depth to the picture, I mean?, the fence stands different planes to the image.
somehow reminds me of a painting of Bonnard :))

Congratulations, my friend. you are always progressing more and more with your art.
    good weekend! :)

    1. Roberto, I think you are right, the foreground needs something. I just wish the fence looked nicer...

And thanks for reminding me about Pierre Bonnard. Actually I don't like drawing or painting gardens, all that greenery is so overwhelming, but he did it wonderfully, I should learn from him.

  2. Very nice, Sasa.
Your sketch has a relaxed atmosphere.
I like how you have sketched the lady sketching.

  3. Thanks for showing us another amazing rooftop in London!!! This too reminds me of one of the impressionists!!...I don't like drawing gardens or trees either...its tempting to paint too much..its the abbreviation of the scene which is the skill worth aquiring.

    1. Yes, seems that I am spending most of my time on various rooftops... :-) Next time when I try to draw a scene like this I'll try to remember the abbreviation thing.

  4. What romantic rooftops there are in London! Very impressionistic painting with that Parisien balcony. It's fun to spot the hatted lady in the midst of this lush foliage. I didn't expect her. I had a bit of zoo-like experience: you look and look to find the animal that's described on the sign and then suddenly you see it, a lizard sitting very still and camouflaged.

    Amicalement.

  6. I love how you've captured the summer feeling on these drawings and the last post at the beach. You did great, drawing with other people would make me nervous.

    1. Thank you Ana. I think sketching with other people is both humbling and encouraging. It is great to see all those different but amazing interpretations of the same subject.

  7. Sketching and chatting? This means that you have a very good concentration! I like both your sketches and don't think the fence is a mistake. :) Looking at the first one, I have the feeling I will fall down into the garden (knowing that there's a fence, of course!)! Oh, if I could see wht that lady's drawing... Maybe someone else, whose sketching?:D

    1. Thanks Rossichka. I think the lady was drawing this Mediterranean style pink and blue house that should have been well visible from where she sat. Unfortunately she left before I had a chance to peak into her sketchbook so can't say for sure...
